AI Use in the Classroom

Google Workspace Policy

All digital work for this course must be completed in the document assigned by the instructor in Google Classroom. Copying and pasting into any document without a discussion with your teacher could be flagged as plagiarism. Teachers have the right to view Version History of any document.

Generative AI Use

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) programs are not a replacement for creativity, originality, and critical thinking. However, in specific circumstances, teachers may allow the use of GenAI. Teachers will share what level of GenAI involvement is permissible.

It is important to note that if a teacher does not specify what “Level of AI Use” can be utilized, then no GenAI can be used. Students must provide proper citations and disclosures when GenAI is used. Using GenAI without attribution or without express permission from the instructor is academic dishonesty and violates the student handbook.

Be clear with students about what level of AI use is allowed for each task. If AI use is not explicitly allowed, students should assume it is not permitted.

Additional Staff Resources

These tabs pull together the current staff-facing categories from the SCS Generative AI Resources page so the redesigned layout keeps the same practical supports in a cleaner format.

Study Companion (SCS Custom MagicSchool Study Chatbot)

Study Companion is designed to help students study smarter, build confidence, strengthen academic habits, and support productive struggle rather than simply give answers.

Teachers can use it as is or personalize the template for their own students, intervention groups, small groups, or independent study.

Prompt & Practices

Prompt & Practice is a growing collection of practical AI ideas designed to help SCS staff explore one useful strategy at a time. These resources model real classroom and professional use cases, highlight strong prompting habits, and give staff simple ways to try AI in meaningful, manageable ways.

The collection includes examples that support planning, differentiation, engagement, feedback, organization, and instructional design. It is intended to give staff ready-to-use ideas while also building confidence in how to prompt AI tools more effectively.

NotebookLM

NotebookLM is a Google tool that helps staff work with their own sources. It can summarize documents, organize information, generate notes, and answer questions based on the materials you provide.

This tool is approved for staff use. Staff should use district-approved accounts and follow SCS expectations for responsible AI use.

Magic School Resources

The live SCS page currently highlights platform tutorials, the Magic School YouTube channel, and self-paced certification pathways for both beginner and advanced users.
