Information Security Policies & Procedures
Strongsville City Schools collects, maintains, and processes information necessary to support the educational, operational, and administrative functions of the District. Protecting this information is essential to maintaining trust, ensuring continuity of operations, and complying with applicable laws and regulations.
To strengthen the security of District Information & Technology Resources (see definition Bylaw 0100), the District maintains the following information security policies and procedures. These policies are aligned with recognized cybersecurity best practices, including the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Critical Security Controls v8.
The District’s Technology Department is responsible for implementing and maintaining these controls and reviewing them regularly to ensure continued effectiveness.
Core Information Security Policies
1. Access Control
Access to District systems, networks, and data is limited to authorized users who require access to perform their job responsibilities.
The District will:

Assign user access based on role and legitimate educational or operational need

Require unique user accounts for system access

Remove or adjust access when employment status or responsibilities change

2. Data Protection

5. Incident Reporting and Response

Incident records are retained in accordance with District record retention requirements.
Following significant incidents, the District conducts a post-incident review to identify root causes and corrective actions.
6. Secure Data Storage and Transmission
District data must only be stored or transmitted using approved District systems and services.
Users must not:

7. Media Sanitization and Device Disposal
Before technology equipment is reassigned, transferred, or disposed of, all data must be securely removed.

Documentation of device or media destruction is maintained by the Technology Department.
8. Security Awareness and Training
District employees who use District technology resources are required to:
